HISTORIC MILWAUKIE CITY HALL

Originally built in the 1930s, Milwaukie City Hall has long been the center for Milwaukie's city offices, fire station and public events. After deciding to build a new Milwaukie City Hall in 2023, the city wanted to reimagine the historic city hall into a new and vibrant dining hub. Two years later, the building is now home to pFriem Family Brewers and Keeper Coffee, as well as an office space on the second floor.

Transforming the 1930s city hall into two restaurants required a complete interior remodel - taking the interior down to the studs, upgrading structural systems, installing new building systems, adding two new staircases, all new restrooms, and creating a brand new interior layout that would support two bustling restaurants. The building interior features plentiful art and murals, and the finishes intentionally harken back to the 1930s, aiming to restore some of the original building charm. While the interior underwent a massive renovation, our goal was to keep the historic exterior largely untouched. Small upgrades like exterior dining patios, fresh trim paint, replacing the main entry door with the original historic door design, and adding a stunning wrap around entry mural help make the building shine, while keeping it a recognizable and historic city landmark.
